Rolex Explorer ref 114270, the ready-for-anything mountaineer's tool watch, was produced for almost a decade between 2001 and 2010. Although slightly thicker, it retained the same 36mm case size and the same dial design than its predecessor, ref. 14270, featuring luminescent Arabic numerals and Rolex's famous Mercedes-style hands. However, ref. 114270 also sports the new 3130 self-winding movement, an upgrade from the 3000 caliber, essentially a dateless caliber 3135. Technical specifications aside, the Rolex 114270 is an incredibly versatile and sophisticated luxury watch.
